Description

Born in 1979, in Kalahasti, Ramesh Gorjala shares his birthplace with that of Kalamkari style. Though he earned his BFA and MFA from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, Ramesh was introduced to art at a much younger age. His parents were weavers and his uncle is a national award winning Kalamkari artist, this is where Ramesh’s informal art education began.

Ramesh found his artistic inspiration in Indian mythology. He recreates Hindu Gods and Goddesses on his canvas, with his own unique and distinct interpretation. Born and raised in Srikalahasti, the artist was naturally inclined towards using the Kalamkari technique in his paintings. Kalamkari is an ancient Indian art form, which is extremely delicate and native to the Srikalahasti region. The artist painstakingly creates different characters such as various forms of Ganesha on his subject; Ganesha. The artist also illustrates different stories from Ganesha’s life in this painting. The use of vivid shades of red, orange, and green blended with the stunning golden yellow, bring life to this astonishingly remarkable painting.

Over the span of his career, Ramesh has shown his works in many Indian and international art galleries and shows. In the year 2000 he was awarded “Mahatma Gandhi Birth Centenary Memorial Award” from the Victoria Technical Institute ( V.T.I.), Chennai and in 2002 he received the State Award from Andhra Pradesh Crafts Council.
