Seema Kohli completed her Diploma in Applied Arts (ITI) from South Delhi Polytechnic, New Delhi in 1983. She completed her undergraduate studies in Philosophy (Hons) from Miranda House, Delhi University in 1981. In the last few years as a full-fledged artist, Seema has seen tremendous response to her work, leading her to do over 20 solo shows in Venice, Brussels, NY, Dubai, Singapore Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore. Seema has participated in International Bienniale’s (Venice, Shanghai, India), Art fairs in Hong Kong, Basel, Beijing, Madrid, and India.
Her journey with art has been an emotional one. As a child, she was an introvert, and a doctor recommended that she be given paints. The day she got her first drawing book, it was as if a dam had been broken. She has pursued her passion even in times of difficulties in her personal life. Seema’s artwork is embellished with 24-carat gold and silver leaf. Her themes range from spiritual, mythology, nature, feminine sexuality among many others. She also has been creating sculptures, installations and giving performances. Her most famous work is around the ‘Tree of Life’ and which is a focus in many of her paintings.
One of the leading contemporary artists of her time, Seema has been showered with accolades. She has been a recipient of Florence Biennale 2009, 1 Premio ‘Video’, the YFLO Women Achiever’s Award and LKA Lifetime Achievement Award for Women in 2008. She currently works out of Delhi.
